Police have arrested five more suspects in connection with the death of rugby player Sydney Gongodyo, bringing the total number of people in custody to eight as investigations into the alleged mob attack continue.
The latest arrests follow ongoing efforts by investigators to identify and apprehend all individuals believed to have taken part in the incident that led to Gongodyo’s death on June 5.
The suspects currently in custody are Ssebagala Noordin, Ayebazibwe Roden, Namukose Juliet, Mondoni Elly, Twinomujuni Herbert, Katsigazi Perigrino, Tayebwa Darlious and Tugume Hannington.

Public Relations Officer Kampala Metropolitan Officer SP Rachael Kawala confirmed the developments, saying investigations remain active and more arrests are expected.
“Five additional suspects have been arrested in connection with the death of Sydney Gongodyo, bringing the total number of suspects in custody to eight. Efforts are ongoing to identify, trace and apprehend other individuals believed to have participated in the incident,” Kawala said.

She reiterated the force’s commitment to ensuring that everyone involved is held accountable.
“The Uganda Police Force remains committed to ensuring that all those responsible are brought to justice. Further updates will be provided as investigations progress,” she added.
Gongodyo’s death has sparked widespread concern within Uganda’s rugby fraternity, with police continuing to pursue all leads related to the case. Gongodyo was supposed to be laid to rest in Budadiri Town Council, Sironko District today.
