In 2011, Ugandan rally co-driver George Ssemakula Katende and his wife Racheal welcomed a baby boy, Miguel Nkayivu Katende, now known to motorsport fraternity as Miguel. Little did they know their son would grow into a motorsport sensation, bringing pride to Uganda and inspiring the next generation of motocross and rally fans.

Fourteen-year-old Miguel recently made waves in the first-ever FMU e-sport championship series, finishing 4th overall in a field of seasoned drivers, including active rally competitors and even his uncle. Missing the first round, Miguel stormed back with 127 points, claiming second place in rounds three and four. The series, designed to nurture future stars, showcased Miguel’s raw talent, and he’s just getting started.

With a background in motocross, Miguel is no stranger to championships. He made history as Uganda’s first MX rider to win a title with a perfect score, clinching the 2025 MX85cc National championship with 24 wins out of 24 heats.

His journey began in 2016. He later on won the MX 50cc title in 2020, four years after joining the sport, followed by back-to-back MX 65cc championships in 2021 and 2022. Though injuries and exams (he was a student at St. Francis Junior, Buddo) paused his racing in 2023 and 2024, Miguel became the first Ugandan at the age of 12 to qualify for the World Junior Motocross Championship finals in Romania in 2023 in MX 65cc.

With his sights set on rally, Miguel’s story is a testament to passion and potential. “Given financial support and life, God willing,” he could be Uganda’s next rally champion. The motorsport community is watching.
Lato Milk, St.Francis Junior School Buddo, Worldwide Movers Africa, RZ tyres, Semka Riding Academy have financially supported Miguel and they are part of all his achievements
