The Uganda men’s netball team, known fittingly as ‘The Rock’, announced their arrival on the international stage with a strong statement, defeating Botswana 45-31 to secure a respectable 5th place finish at the Africa Netball Cup held in Lilongwe, Malawi.

This momentous achievement comes in the team’s very first international event, signaling a promising future for men’s netball in Uganda.
Resilience and Grit
The victory was hard-earned and showcased ‘The Rock’s’ incredible resilience and fighting spirit.
Uganda found themselves trailing Botswana 12-9 after a challenging first quarter. However, ‘The Rock’ quickly settled, closing the gap to enter halftime tied at a tense 19-19.

The decisive push came in the third quarter. Playing true to their nickname, the Ugandans dominated the court and defence to establish a commanding 31-23 lead. They carried this momentum through to the final whistle, winning the match 45-31 at full-time.
A Solid Foundation
This 5th place finish is a significant boost for the young squad, placing them ahead of Botswana (who settled for 6th place) and the tournament hosts, the Malawi Kings, who finished at the rear of the men’s standings.

Having achieved such a strong result in their international debut, ‘The Rock’ has set a high standard and created a fantastic springboard for other upcoming events.
