KAMPALA – Uganda’s “Star Boy,” Allan Okello, has officially completed his highly anticipated transfer to Tanzanian giants Young Africans SC (Yanga), bringing an end to a trophy-laden two-and-a-half-year stint at Vipers SC. The transfer, confirmed yesterday by both clubs, reportedly cost the Jangwani-based side $300,000 (approx. UGX 1 billion). This landmark deal makes Okello the second-most expensive departure in Vipers’ history, trailing only Farouk Miya’s 2016 move to Standard Liège.

In an emotional parting message to the Venoms’ faithful, the 25-year-old playmaker expressed his deep gratitude for the support that defined his time at St. Mary’s Stadium.
“Asante sana, Vipers family! I’m grateful for the love and support I’ve received during my 2.5 years with SC Vipers,” Okello stated.

“It was an incredible journey, and I’m proud of what we’ve achieved together, including winning the Uganda Premier League and Uganda Cup. I’m excited for this new chapter with Yanga SC and promise to keep working hard. Thanks again, Vipers community, for believing in me!”

Okello leaves a massive void in the Ugandan league. In his final season (2024/25), he clinched the Golden Boot with 19 goals, leading Vipers to a historic domestic double. His move to Yanga on a three-year contract marks a major step in his career as he looks to replicate his domestic dominance on the continental stage.

Asante Sana kwa kuwashukuru vipers, ni kuchezi bora kwa Allan!
