Kenya to host a major global women’s football event in April after FIFA confirmed Nairobi as one of the host cities for the 2026 FIFA Women’s Series.

This edition will be the first to feature women’s national teams since the competition’s inception.,

According to FIFA, the Nairobi based group will feature the national teams of Kenya, Australia, India, and Malawi.

In a statement issued on March 24, 2026, Mvurya said the tournament will be the first time Kenya hosts a FIFA global football event.

“I am pleased to announce that Kenya has once again been selected to host the 2026 FIFA Women’s Series Matches, marking a historic milestone as our country hosts a FIFA global football event for the very first time,” he said.

The tournament offers the national women’s team, Harambee Starlets, a rare chance to compete against higher ranked international opposition on home soil, this April marking a significant milestone for the country and the tournament itself.

Australia, one of Asia’s strongest women’s teams and a regular presence at the Women’s World Cup, headlines the Nairobi group.

The matches are scheduled for April 11 and April 15, 2026, at Nyayo National Stadium.

This will be Kenya’s first time hosting the FIFA Series, a biennial invitational event that promotes global football development by pitting established international sides against emerging nations.

The tournament was launched in 2022, with the inaugural edition in 2024 exclusively featuring men’s teams. By hosting one of the firsts ever women’s groups, Kenya secures its place in the tournament’s history. The other three women’s groups are set to take place in Brazil, Côte d’Ivoire, and Thailand.
