Over the weekend, the third edition of the Prof. Emmanuel Tumusiime Mutebile Memorial Squash Tournament came to a thrilling close at Kampala Club, with Paul Kasirye Kadoma and Jane Njeri emerging as the headline winners. More than 80 participants took part in this year’s competition.
The tournament was organized by Kampala Club Limited and funded by the Bank of Uganda in remembrance of former Governor Prof. Emmanuel Tumusiime Mutebile, who passed away in 2022 while serving as a member of Kampala Club.
In the 2026 edition, Uganda’s top seed Paul Kasirye Kadoma once again proved his dominance, remaining the only player to win the men’s main event since the tournament began in 2023.
Kadoma secured the title with a commanding 3-0 victory over rising star Ivan Wasswa in the final played on Saturday evening at Kampala Club.
After his triumph, Kadoma said:“I feel blessed to have won this tournament for the third time. I am delighted that Bank of Uganda has come up with this initiative. I appreciate my fellow players for the great challenge, especially Ivan Wasswa in the final; he is a very good player.”
Runner-up Ivan Wasswa remained optimistic despite the loss:
“I am not giving up, though it is challenging being a medical doctor and continuing with my playing career. I will remain committed to winning some tournaments. Squash is a good game that I can recommend to many young ones.”
Cash prizes in the main event were awarded starting from the quarterfinal stage. The quarterfinalists were Michael Reymond Kawooya, Mark Musinguzi, Joel Kasibante, and Cedric Sserwada.
In the Over-50 category, former Attorney General William Byaruhanga claimed victory, while the junior category showcased the bright future of Ugandan squash.
