The Rwanda Premier League and Bank of Kigali (BK) have signed a cooperation agreement worth 3.2 billion Frw, (Eight billion, one hundred forty-five million, five hundred sixty-nine thousand, twelve in Uganda shillings )including the bank’s naming rights to the Rwanda Premier League.
The agreement was signed on Friday, April 24, 2026, with the participation of the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Rwanda Premier League, Mudaheranwa Yussuf; the CEO of Bank of Kigali, Dr. Diane Karusisi and the President of FERWAFA, Shema Fabrice.
One of the goals behind the creation of the Rwanda Premier League was to provide resources for the teams playing in the Rwanda Premier League, through various sponsors.
This time it gained a new sponsor, Bank of Kigali, which will be called the Rwanda Championship, which will be renamed “BK Pro League”. It is a contract worth 3.25 billion Frw, for a period of five years.
Dr. Karusisi said that football is going to go a long way when BK will be associated with the Rwanda Premier League, and everyone involved will benefit from the agreement.
“We are delighted to partner with the Rwanda Premier League. First of all, we saw that football in Rwanda is very popular, and in BK, we see it as an investment. We see it in the national economy because that’s why Rwanda is building infrastructure like this.
The Rwandan Premier League has a well established structure to work with. In five years, we will bring football to the international stage. Both clubs and individuals will have a place in BK. Mudaheranwa said that the reason why they chose BK, was that it is a bank that goes in the direction of the country, and will help Rwandan football to reach further.
There were many who needed it, but if you needed to go far, you still need a partner. We needed someone who knew the direction of the country, and after a few conversations, we got it.
Shema welcomed the start of cooperation between the two sides and described it as a step in using football to boost the country’s economy.
I thank BK for the trust it has placed in the Rwanda Championship and the Rwanda Premier League which has taken football not only for fun but also for economic reasons. The Rwandan championship without a sponsor was extended to Day 28, led by Al Hilal SC with 58 points, followed by APR FC with 52.
