The Lady Rugby Cranes have got to work on their speed and physic, if they are to counter South Africa who started the rugby Africa campaign with 64-5 beating of Madagascar on Saturday.  

On wednesday coach Muhammad Athio girls match onto the Rugby Football Union of East Africa ground well aware of what is at stake for them.

After losing against Kenya 43-10, the Uganda side must win the Wednesday May 27,2026 game or count themselves out of the qualification for the World Rugby performance division II and III respectively.

A loss for Uganda means that they will now play the last match against Madagascar only to fight relegation and stay in the World Cup qualifying tier.

Uganda conceded seven tries, a signal to coach Muhammad Athio that he has more work to do ahead of the next game with pre-tournament favourites South Africa who beat Madagascar 64-5.

The defeat has lowered Uganda chances of qualifying to the World rugby performance division2 competitions.

The Lady Rugby Cranes started the game well but lacked that physical strength to counter the well drilled and Physical opponents who had vast experience in international Competitions.

Cabrine Kirabo scored Uganda’s sole try while Bushira Namutebi added the conversion and the penalty to tally the 10 points for Uganda while Maureen Murith, Nelly Chikombe, Stell Wafula, Faith Livol Noame Muhanji and Freshia Oduor managed Kenya’s tries.

Team captain Angella Nanyonjo conceded defeat but vowed to return to the drawing board and come back strong against pre-event favourites South Africa on Wednesday.

“It was a tough contest. The team gave it the best, but the results went the other way to the opponents. We are going back on the drawing board and we look forward to the next match,” Nanyonjo said.
