Mustapha Nsubuga has been elected President of Kho Kho Uganda following the federation’s first Annual General Assembly held at Kyambogo College School.

The assembly brought together 87 district delegates from across Uganda and marked a significant milestone in the sport’s development. Delegates approved the federation’s rebranding from the Uganda Kho Kho Federation to Kho Kho Uganda and adopted a new official logo.

A new executive committee was elected to lead the sport into its next phase of growth, while members also approved a budget of UGX 1.906 billion for the 2026/2027 financial year.

The approved budget will support several key programmes, including capacity-building initiatives, coach and player development, organization of national leagues, preparations for the Commonwealth Kho Kho Championship scheduled for October 2026, and the hosting of the inaugural East Africa Kho Kho Championship.

The assembly also endorsed a strategic roadmap aimed at expanding the sport’s reach, strengthening competition structures, and enhancing Uganda’s participation in regional and international competitions.

The decisions come on the back of Uganda’s impressive performance at the inaugural Kho Kho World Cup in India earlier this year, where the national women’s team won a bronze medal and established Uganda among the leading Kho Kho nations globally.
Speaking after her election, General Secretary Harriet Apoloti Margret expressed gratitude to delegates for their confidence in the new leadership.

“I extend my sincere appreciation to all delegates who entrusted us with the responsibility of leading Kho Kho Uganda. I also thank our players, coaches, technical officials, and members of the media for their relentless efforts in advancing the growth of the sport,” she said.
She noted that Kho Kho continues to transform the lives of young athletes by providing opportunities for competition, recognition, and personal development.

The sport has experienced remarkable growth in Uganda and is now played in more than 87 districts, with increasing popularity in schools and communities nationwide. Globally, Kho Kho is now played in more than 55 countries across six continents.

Attention now turns to the inaugural Commonwealth Kho Kho Championship, set for October 2026 in India, where Uganda hopes to build on its recent international success.
