The five -times Buganda masaza cup champions Gomba lions made a bold statement ahead of the 2026 Masaza Cup tournament by unveiling their official 31-man squad in front of an excited home crowd at PTC Kabulasoke playground this evening. The unveiling was capped off with an entertaining friendly match against reigning Champions Buweekula which ended in a spirited 1-1 draw with Faisal Magoba scored for Buweekula while mawejje Owen for Gomba lions.

The match served as a glimpse into the strength and depth of the new-look Gomba lions side under the guidance of experienced gaffer Felix Ssekabuzza, which is aiming to clinch their sixth Masaza Cup title. Fans filled the stands with excitement and applause, encouraged by the team’s energy and cohesion, signaling what promises to be a competitive campaign.

The 2026 squad boasts a strong blend of youth, experience, and individual brilliance, thanks in large part to the renewed their contracts such as experienced players Onen Herbert , Okwi Simon Peter and Masenbe Dirisa , Robert Ssewanyana among others .

Leading the headlines is the signing of Aniku Fahad and Ssemanda Collins defenders from reigning Champions Buweekula while Striker Kasule Muhammad Meddie from masaka city fc , Abiti Moses, Ssebunya Alfred kizza Joseph,Gava peter among others.

Record champions has been drawn into the Masengere Group, one of the most competitive pools in this year’s tournament. They will face Three times champions mawokota, Kyaggwe, three times champions Bulemezi, 2022 champions busiro, and Ssese. Their opening fixture will be away against Buwekula on June 21 against Busiro at Trinity college school in Nabbingo, a match that is expected to set the tone for their campaign. With a solid technical team in place, Gomba is not only eyeing progression from the group stages but also has its sights firmly set on the championship.

The 2026 Buganda Masaza Cup season officially kicks off on Saturday, June 13, at the NTC Grounds in Mubende, where defending champions Buweekula will face 2008 champions Kyaddondo in the opening fixture.

Gomba are previous Masaza Cup champions, having lifted the title in 2004,2009, 2014, 2017 and 2020 .

Gomba Lions will be hoping their blend of experienced players and emerging talent can guide them through a challenging group stage and ultimately deliver a historic sixth Buganda Masaza Cup title.
