Real Stars Sports Monthly Awards, in partnership with Fortebet and Jude Colour Solutions, honoured four outstanding athletes from four different sporting disciplines for their exceptional performances in June.
The colourful awards ceremony was held on Tuesday morning at Nanjing Restaurant in Kololo and was attended by Fortebet Brand Ambassador Alex Muhangi, Jude Colour Solutions representative Erone Nandawula, and Real Stars Sports Agency CEO Isaac Mukasa.
Athletes were recognised in football, rugby, boxing and rally. The June winners were Allan Okello (football), Yassin Wasswa (rugby), Ukasha Matovu (boxing) and Hassan Alwi (rally).
In the boxing category, Ukasha Matovu claimed the award following his impressive victory over Isaac Kasasa of Katabi Boxing Club after the referee stopped the contest (RSC) in the second round of their light middleweight bout. He beat fellow nominees Emily Nakalema and Kato Kazibwe to the monthly accolade.
Speaking after receiving the award, Matovu promised to continue excelling.”Prepare many more awards because I am ready to win them,” he said.
In motorsport, Hassan Alwi and his experienced navigator Musa Nsubuga earned recognition after producing a commanding display to win the Masaka Rally. Alwi beat fellow nominees Duncan Mubiru and Jonas Kasiime to secure the award.
The rugby accolade went to Buffaloes Rugby Club’s Yassin Wasswa, whose decisive penalty guided his side to the Uganda Rugby Premiership title against Pirates Rugby Club. Wasswa edged Alex Aturinda and Fat Moses to claim the monthly honour.
The event also paid tribute to the late Sydney Gongodyo for his immense contribution to Ugandan sport. Real Stars Sports Agency CEO Isaac Mukasa highlighted the importance of preserving Gongodyo’s legacy, while representatives from Pirates Rugby Club expressed gratitude for the recognition.
In football, Uganda Cranes star Allan Okello was recognised after an outstanding month with Tanzanian champions Young Africans SC (Yanga). Okello helped the club secure its fourth consecutive Tanzanian Premier League title and earned his second successive Real Stars Sports Award.
The attacking midfielder capped off a remarkable June by scoring a hat-trick and providing an assist as Yanga sealed the league crown. He finished his debut season with 14 league goals. Okello was unable to attend the ceremony due to family commitments in Lira, with a representative receiving the award on his behalf.
The Fortebet Real Stars Sports Awards continue to celebrate Uganda’s top-performing athletes every month, recognising excellence across different sporting disciplines and inspiring the next generation of sports stars.
