The Uganda national kabaddi team, the Gladiators, has officially been flagged off ahead of the 4th Africa Kabaddi Men’s Cup, scheduled to take place from August 1 to 13 at Amaani Stadium in Zanzibar.

The flag-off ceremony was held on Monday, July 27, at the National Council of Sports (NCS) headquarters in Lugogo. The team was officially sent off by Joseph Oluga, the NCS Assistant General Secretary for Administration, alongside James Kasumba, the NCS Sports Officer.

Uganda heads into the continental championship with an 11-man squad under the guidance of coaches John Nsibambi and Stanley Gombe. The Gladiators will face stiff competition from Cameroon, Tanzania, Burundi, hosts Zanzibar, and defending champions Kenya.

The team will be aiming to improve on its runner-up finish at the previous edition, where Uganda lost 44–23 to hosts Kenya in the final played in July 2024.

The Gladiators will be hoping to make history by going one step further and lifting the continental title in Zanzibar after narrowly missing out in the previous championship.
