Two-time Ugandan National Rally Champion Ponsiano Lwakataka “Mafu Mafu” will celebrate his 25th anniversary in motorsport with a special fundraising sprint event on September 20, 2026, at Victoria Raceway Park, Garuga.
The milestone celebration doubles as a crucial UGX 220 million fundraising drive to secure his new Volkswagen Polo Proto rally car — the machine previously owned by the late Rajiv Ruparelia.
The hunt for the UGX 220M has already received a major boost, with the Ruparelia Group of Companies contributing UGX 25 million towards the campaign. The event has also drawn significant backing from corporate sponsors and the local motorsport fraternity, who have rallied behind one of Uganda’s most resilient icons.

Lwakataka, who originally transitioned from motocross to rallying in 2000, has over the last quarter-century established himself as one of Uganda’s most daring and celebrated rally drivers — a two-time NRC Champion famous for beating modern machinery in an aging Subaru.
As part of the celebrations, fans attending the Garuga sprint will have a chance to support the campaign directly by purchasing a limited-edition 25th Anniversary Magazine Book at the gate, chronicling Mafu’s journey from the dusty tracks of Kayunga to national champion.
Garuga is expected to be full – a fitting tribute to 25 years of Mafu Mafu.
