Cameroon’s Volleyball Lionesses delivered a commanding performance at the Kasarani Indoor Arena on Friday afternoon, sweeping Rwanda 3–0 (25-17, 25-16, 25-19) to secure third place at the 2026 Women’s African Nations Volleyball Championship.
he victory not only earned Cameroon continental bronze but also clinched Africa’s third and final qualification ticket to the 2027 FIVB Volleyball World Championship.
Cameroon asserted authority early in the opening set, leaning on heavy service pressures and effective net protection to close out the first frame 25-17.
Rwanda responded with resilient floor defense, led by solid reception work (65% positive reception in Set 1), but struggled to convert opportunities past Cameroon’s towering front line.
The second set followed a similar script, with Cameroon opening up a 14-7 kill advantage to seal the set 25-16 and move within one set of victory.
Rwanda showed late pushback in the third frame, matching Cameroon’s offensive output through long rallies, but Cameroon’s net defense proved decisive.
The Lionesses racked up 10 total blocks across the match compared to Rwanda’s 5, ultimately taking the final set 25-19.
Following the final point, the Cameroonian side erupted into celebration on the Kasarani court, dancing in front of the gathering Nairobi crowd to mark their return to the global stage.
With Cameroon joining host nation Kenya and Egypt as Africa’s three representatives for the 2027 FIVB World Championship, all attention now shifts to the tournament’s main event: an epic gold medal showdown between Kenya’s Malkia Strikers and Egypt at a packed Kasarani Indoor Arena.
