Duncan “Kikankane” Mubiru has successfully defended his Gulu Rally title, winning the 2026 Rajiv Ruparelia Memorial Rally for the second consecutive year.
Mubiru, driving his powerful Ford Fiesta Proto alongside co-driver Hamza Lwanga, once again proved his class on the demanding Gulu stages to secure back-to-back victories in the Independence Day rally.
The reigning winner got his campaign off to a strong start, finishing second overall in the Super Special Stage before stepping up his pace in the second heat. Mubiru produced a blistering 2 minutes and 19.9 seconds to win the heat and strengthen his position at the top of the standings.
Hassan Alwi Jr. mounted a strong challenge to finish second, while experienced campaigner Moses Lumala completed the podium in third place.
The rally, held on October 9–10 at Kaunda Grounds in Gulu, attracted 31 crews, with several competitors forced to retire on the opening day after encountering difficulties on the challenging route.
Competitors tackled a total distance of 260.88 kilometres, featuring demanding stages including Noblakes and Wobbly, alongside the Super Special Stage named in honour of the late Rajiv Ruparelia.
Alwi took honours in the Super Special Stage, but it was Mubiru who ultimately had the consistency and pace to claim overall victory and retain his Gulu Rally crown.
The result further underlines Mubiru’s status among Uganda’s leading rally drivers, as “Kikankane” continues to make his mark on the national rally championship.
