The 2025 Uganda International Series badminton tournament has officially kicked off, featuring over 112 young enthusiasts from 14 nations, including Uganda, the United Arab Emirates, Iran, Poland, the Cook Islands, Cameroon, India, and Germany.

The tournament, which started on Thursday, October 2, will run for four days, with participants competing in singles, doubles, and mixed doubles categories.

In the tournament, the Ugandan team has brought in more players, increasing their total number to 59, up from 46 which featured in the Kampala International Future Series badminton tournament. They previously won seven bronze medals in the concluded tournament.

Shamika, who was defeated in the quarterfinals of the Kampala International Future Series, is determined to make a podium finish in this tournament.

She expressed confidence in her abilities, stating, “I hope to reach the semifinals or finals of the Uganda International Series because I feel I’ve trained and worked a lot for this.”

She’s also familiar with some of the players, having met them in West African countries, and is eager to put up a good show.
