Duncan Mubiru, affectionately known as ‘Kikankane’, has once again proven his prowess, clinching victory at the CMC Rajiv Ruparelia Memorial Gulu Rally with an impressive total time of 01:04:10.9.
The win wasn’t handed to him on a silver platter, but rather secured through a combination of skill, determination, and a crucial day one petition.
A Tense Start and a Decisive Ruling:
Kikankane’s lead in day one was hard-fought. During Competitive Stage 2 on Friday, an incident with Umar Dauda, who had stopped for a tire change, left Kikankane battling through thick dust, impacting his time. Following a review, the Clerk of the Course (COC) awarded Kikankane an 11-second compensation. This critical decision shifted the standings, granting him a 6-second advantage and moving Hassan Alwi Jr. from the lead to second position.
Kikankane’s Day Two Charge:
Undeterred, Kikankane returned even stronger on day two. While he didn’t secure victory in the first section, he went on to win two of the five sections, cementing his lead and ultimately, his triumph.
