Edward Kirumira is determined to bounce back after a recent accident forced him to DNF in the UMC Fort Portal Tourism City Rally, causing him to lose ground in the championship.
Competing in the 2WD category, Kirumira had been in third place with 60.5 points, leading the race for two days before an electrical issue led to a crash during the power stage.
This mishap handed Julius Ssemambo the win, propelling him to the top of the 2WD category with a 26-point lead over Kirumira.
Besides Mukalo, Kirumira is competing against second-placed Mansoor Lubega with 85.5 points, Amir Kavuma in third (65.5 points) and Ibrahim Lubega Pasuwa (52.5 points).
Kirumira is set to compete in the CMC Rajiv Ruparelia Memorial Rally in Gulu, the second-last round of the annual calendar. The event is slated from October 9 to 12. This rally is a tribute to the late Rajiv Ruparelia, a renowned Ugandan rally driver and businessman who tragically passed away in May.
“We’re back, and we’re fighting for points,” Kirumira said, emphasizing his determination to win the Gulu race and the final round in Hoima. The Rajiv Ruparelia Memorial Rally will feature multiple stages across Gulu, showcasing competitive racing.
