Uganda’s skating talent was on full display in Nairobi, Kenya, this past weekend as the national team—comprising athletes from the Entebbe City Rollers club—returned home with an impressive haul of five medals from the 2026 G7 Skating Championship.

The championship, held at the Kasarani Stadium outdoor arena saw Ugandan skaters push through tough competition, securing two silver and three bronze medals across various age categories.

The Ugandan contingent proved their mettle against regional rivals, with standout performances across the board:
Ian Silver Ongaki secured a well-deserved silver medal in the Boys’ 5-year category.

Flavia Mbatudde clinched a silver medal in the competitive Girls’ 16–18 years category.

Rashid Mubaraka took home a bronze medal in the Boys’ 10–11 years age group.

Halima Atatiru won a bronze medal in the Girls’ 14–15 years category.

Bridget Nandawula added a second medal to the girls’ 16–18 years category, securing bronze to mark Uganda’s journey of determination.

The success comes after a grueling 719-kilometer journey by road. Before departing, the Entebbe City Rollers team received the official blessing of the Uganda Skating Federation (USF).

The team’s preparations were bolstered by the Entebbe Municipal Council. During the official flag-off, Entebbe Mayor, His Worship Fabrice Brad Rulinda, showed his support by donating tracksuits worth UGX 1,200,000 and contributing UGX 1,000,000 in cash to facilitate the team’s logistics.

Reflecting on the achievement, Himran Sserumaga, the team lead at Entebbe City Rollers, expressed his gratitude. “It was a successful championship, and I thank the players, their parents, coaches, and all the stakeholders who facilitated our travel to Kenya.” Sserumaga told Kawowo Sports.
