NAIROBI, Kenya – The 2025 Kenya National Chess Championship concluded with a historic roar at the Westwood Hotel, as a new generation of talent seized the throne.

The Teen King & The Tactical Queen
At just 13 years old, FM Jadon Simiyu made history as the youngest-ever Kenya National Open Champion. Displaying maturity far beyond his years, Simiyu outmaneuvered a field of veteran Grand Masters and seasoned champions to claim the top prize.

In the Ladies’ section, WCM Jully Mutisya delivered a masterclass in composure. Mutisya held her nerve through a high-pressure final round to secure the Ladies’ title, cementing her status as the region’s premier female tactician.

Major Rewards and Global Stakes
The stakes were higher than ever this year. For their clinical performances, both Simiyu and Mutisya were awarded brand-new cars, a testament to the growing commercial profile of the sport in East Africa.

The victory also carries international weight. The top five finishers in both the Open and Ladies’ categories have officially qualified for the 2026 World Chess Olympiad in Uzbekistan.
