The 17th edition of the SOM Inter-Project Chess Championship and the 3rd edition of the T.E.C.H For the World Annual Chess Championship are set to kick off tomorrow at the Sports Outreach Resource Center in Kiwawu, Mityana Road.

Over 400 participants from seven SOM Inter-Project Chess Academy centers across Uganda, including Kampala, Gulu, Jinja, Kagadi, Masaka, Hoima, and Budaka, will compete in an all-week residential event with FIDE-rated 8 rounds.
The SOM Inter-Project Chess Tournament starts tomorrow and wraps up on Wednesday. Then, on Thursday, the 3rd Edition of the Tech for the World School Fees Chess Tournament launches, running from December 11-12, 2025. This initiative promotes chess as a tool for expanding access and opportunities for learners, with categories for primary and secondary players, boys and girls.

Top performers will win certificates, medals, trophies, and a grand prize of a one-year scholarship in each section. The event is organized by SOM Chess Academy, with sponsorship from Robert Katende Initiative, Sports Outreach Kiwawu, and Tech for the World.
