Police FC staged a strong second-half fightback to deny Lugazi maximum points in a tense 1–1 contest at Lugazi Stadium on Wednesday.
Lugazi looked the sharper side early on, creating the first real danger when Police goalkeeper Mathias Muwanga pulled off a crucial block to stop Freedom Mungdit in a one-on-one situation. The hosts eventually made their pressure count in the 36th minute Mungdit turning provider as Abdul Kalanzi swept home a well-taken opener.
Despite trailing, the Cops gradually seized control of the match, pinning Lugazi back for long spells. The hosts, however, clung to their slender lead at halftime thanks in part to a vital save from Juma Mutebi, who denied Lawrence Tezikya from point-blank range.

Police’s momentum finally paid off midway through the second half. Substitute Emmanuel Mugume, who injected instant energy into the visitors’ attack, struck in the 65th minute to drag his side level. Mugume continued to torment Lugazi’s backline, who increasingly struggled to cope with his movement and physicality.
The hosts managed to weather the late pressure, but the dropped points leave them stuck in 13th place on 10 points from 10 outings. Police, meanwhile, climb to third with 18 points after grinding out a valuable result away from home.
