As the Uganda Cranes prepare for a “do-or-die” AFCON Group C showdown against Nigeria tonight, the spotlight has fallen squarely on one man: Uche Mubiru Ikpeazu.

The 30-year-old powerhouse striker, who has become a fan favorite since switching allegiance to his mother’s homeland, finds himself in the middle of a unique family tug-of-war. Born to a Nigerian father from Delta State and a Ugandan mother, Ikpeazu has openly apologized to his “Naija” dad ahead of tonight’s clash in Fez – Morocco.

Blood vs. Badge
Speaking to reporters at the Cranes’ training base, the former Hearts and Wycombe striker didn’t hide the emotional complexity of the fixture. “I’m half Nigerian, that’s where my dad’s from. There will always be that emotional attachment,” Ikpeazu admitted.
“But I have emotional attachment to Uganda as well. I play for Uganda and hopefully, we beat Nigeria. So dad, I’m sorry.”

Despite his father’s roots, Ikpeazu’s loyalty is firmly with the Pearl of Africa. He was the hero in the previous match, coming off the bench to rescue a vital point with a late diving header against Tanzania—a goal that kept Uganda’s qualification hopes alive.
