The “Ingwe” roar echoed across Nairobi on Wednesday as AFC Leopards reclaimed their position at the summit of the FKF Premier League. In a high-stakes away match at the Nyayo National Stadium, Leopards secured a commanding 2-0 victory over Nairobi United, leapfrogging bitter rivals Gor Mahia in the process.

Ugandan Connection Shines
For the Ugandan fans following the Kenyan league, the highlight of the afternoon was the brilliant play of forward Samuel Ssenyonjo. The former Express FC man, who joined the Den on a two-year contract, proved why he is one of the most exciting Ugandan exports in the region.

After an early lead in the 22nd minute—following an own goal by Nairobi United’s Michael Karamor under heavy pressure—Leopards turned to their Ugandan hitman to kill off the game. In the 70th minute, Ssenyonjo turned architect, providing a sublime assist for Kelly Okanji Madada to fire home a beautiful second goal.

While Ssenyonjo was the star on the pitch, his compatriot, goalkeeper James Ssetuba, remained an unused substitute as Humphrey Katasi continued his solid run between the posts.

A Delayed Debut for Kizza
There was significant anticipation surrounding Nairobi United’s new signing, Mustapha Kizza. The Uganda Cranes defender recently completed his move to the “NaiBois” from NEC FC, but fans will have to wait a little longer to see him in action. Kizza was not named in the matchday squad for Wednesday’s clash, likely due to registration timelines or fitness assessments following his recent arrival in Nairobi.

Leapfrogging K’Ogalo
The three points were enough to push AFC Leopards to 27 points, moving them one point clear of Gor Mahia, who had briefly taken the lead on Tuesday. This result marks a significant shift in the title race, with Leopards now firmly in the driver’s seat as they aim for their first league title in nearly three decades.
