Uganda has officially booked its spot in the quarterfinals of the 2026 CAVB Women’s African Nations Volleyball Championship following a dominant, straight-sets victory over the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) at the Kasarani Indoor Arena on Saturday afternoon.
Uganda made quick work of their Round of 16 opponents, storming to a 3-0 (25-16, 27-25, 25-18) victory to keep their continental campaign alive in impressive fashion.
Match Breakdown
Uganda set the tempo early in the opening set, controlling the net and utilizing sharp service pressure to take Set 1 comfortably at 25-16.
The DRC fought back fiercely in the second set, pushing Uganda to the absolute limit in a high-intensity battle.
However, Uganda’s attack line proved decisive—racking up 28 kills, 4 aces, and 7 blocks in Set 2 alone while maintaining a high 42% positive reception rate to snatch a thrilling 27-25 victory and take a 2-0 match lead.
Carrying all the momentum into the third set, Uganda stayed composed, capitalizing on DRC errors and executing clean transitions to close out Set 3 25-18, sparking joyful celebrations on the Kasarani court.
With the victory, Uganda secures a place in the Quarterfinals, scheduled for Monday, August 31, 2026.
