Kitara FC will attempt to keep their championship momentum alive when they travel to Kamwenge to take on Mbarara City FC in a crucial Uganda Premier League encounter.
The Royals head into the contest still reflecting on a frustrating 1-1 stalemate with UPDF FC, a result that slowed their chase for the top spot. Kitara currently trail league leaders Vipers SC by four points, although the Venoms will only return to action on Wednesday with a visit to Bombo to face UPDF.
For Kitara, the trip presents both an opportunity and a psychological test. Over the years, the Ankole Lions have proven to be difficult opponents on home turf, especially when facing the Hoima-based side. Past meetings away from home have rarely favored Kitara, who are yet to record a league victory against Mbarara City on the road.
Head coach Wasswa Bbosa is fully aware of the magnitude of the challenge but insists his side must raise their performance level if they are to remain serious contenders in the title race.
Bbosa acknowledged that the draw against UPDF was a missed opportunity but emphasized that the team must quickly refocus for the next assignment. He noted that Mbarara City’s current battle to stay clear of relegation danger makes them even more unpredictable and determined opponents.
Despite the historical struggles, Bbosa believes his squad has what it takes to rewrite that narrative and secure a crucial victory.
Kitara will be boosted by the return of experienced forward Patrick Kaddu and defender Isa Lumu, who are both back in contention after serving suspensions. However, midfielder Yunus Sibira will miss the encounter after accumulating too many bookings.
For the Royals, three points in Kamwenge could prove vital as they attempt to keep the pressure on Vipers and continue their quest for a historic first league title. ⚽

It’s frustrating to see Kitara facing these consistent challenges, especially with their title ambitions. The fixture congestion must be really tough for the team to manage.
