Badminton Uganda has successfully concluded Phase 2 of its Grassroots Shuttle Time Workshop Campaign in the Teso sub-region and parts of the Busoga region, marking another important milestone in the country’s rapidly growing badminton movement.
The nationwide grassroots initiative reached over 150 schools, significantly strengthening efforts to promote and expand the sport across Uganda.

As part of its broader campaign to popularize badminton, the federation conducted workshops in seven districts within the Teso sub-region, alongside selected districts in Busoga.
The program, which ran from March 28 to April 9, 2026, covered Ngora, Kumi, Bukedea, Butaleja, Butebo, Pallisa, and Kaliro districts.

While closing the workshops, Badminton Uganda Chief Executive Officer Simon Mugabi highlighted the strong turnout and enthusiasm from participants. He noted that students from these regions are expected to greatly benefit from the skills and knowledge acquired during the training sessions.
Mugabi further emphasized that, despite some challenges encountered during implementation, the initiative will continue to expand into more regions across the country.

Participants expressed appreciation for the program, noting that it equipped them with valuable knowledge and practical skills in badminton. Many added that they are now prepared to introduce and teach the sport in their respective schools.
In a similar initiative last year, Badminton Uganda implemented the Shuttle Time program in districts including Iganga, Rwampara, Kayunga, Nakaseke, and Pader.
The continued rollout of the Shuttle Time program underscores Badminton Uganda’s commitment to nurturing young talent and building a strong foundation for the sport nationwide.
