Uganda Athletics (UA) has named a national team of 18 athletes to represent Uganda in the 24th edition of the African Senior Athletics Championships.

The 18man squad will hunt glory for Uganda in the championships due May 12-17, 2026 in Accra, Ghana.

Uganda has historically exhibited great performance at the African Senior Athletics Championships, particularly in long-distance running, and that is what is expected this time.

Athletes including Joy Cheptoyek, Sarah Chelangat, Racheal Zena and Moses Ndiema Kipsiro have always won medals for Uganda and this year’s team should emulate them.

“We have named the best team and we are hopeful that with God’s grace they will win medals,” Dominic Otucet, Uganda Athletics president said.

Shida Leni, Monica Akello, Maureen Banura will feature in the 400m and mixed relay, Maureen Chebet (800m), Knight Aciru (800m/1500m), Martha Chemutai (5,000m/10,000m), Nancy Chepkwirui (3000mSC) and Rebecca Chelangat (10,000m) in the women competitions.
