The Uganda U-17 Women’s National Team will launch their quest for a place at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup when they face regional rivals Kenya in the opening leg of the second qualification round on Friday at FUFA Stadium, Kadiba.

The eagerly awaited East African derby is scheduled to kick off at 4pm, with Uganda determined to make home advantage count before the decisive return fixture in Nairobi next week. Fans will be allowed free entry as the Teen Cranes seek strong backing from the home crowd.

Preparations for the encounter wrapped up on Thursday with the squad holding its final training session at Kadiba. The technical team concentrated on improving tactical discipline, movement, and finishing as the players sharpened up for the crucial contest.

Head coach Sheryl Ulanda Botes expressed satisfaction with the team’s readiness and morale heading into the match.

“We have prepared the players well and the mood in camp is excellent. The girls understand the importance of this game and are ready to compete,” Botes noted.

The South African tactician also acknowledged the challenge posed by Kenya, saying both teams are familiar with each other’s style due to previous meetings.

“Matches between Uganda and Kenya are always intense and competitive. We respect them, but we are focused on getting a result at home,” she added.

The tie will be decided over two legs, with the return match slated for 30th May at Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi. The team that progresses on aggregate will move on to the next qualification phase, where South Africa or Tanzania await.
