Ponsiano Lwakataka ‘Mafu-Mafu’, a Two-time Uganda National Rally Champion has launched a UGX 220 million fundraising campaign to buy the late Rajiv Ruparelia’s Volkswagen Proto rally car.
The campaign was unveiled at Imperial Royale Hotel in Kampala where Lwakataka announced a fundraising dinner for July 18, inviting fans, corporate partners, friends and motorsport enthusiasts to help secure the car.

Lwakataka believes the VW Proto is the weapon he needs to chase more national titles.
“I’ve always believed in the support of Ugandans. The last time I asked people to stand with me, I promised them victory and I delivered, even with a four-minute penalty at Lubiri. With this car, I can beat anyone,” he said.

He also called on government, media and the private sector to invest more in the sport. The 2005 and 2007 national champion said his current car has served him enough, but it’s no longer competitive at the top level. Landing the VW Proto would be the biggest upgrade of his career.
The July 18 dinner at Imperial Royale is expected to bring together the motorsport fraternity, sponsors and fans eager to see one of Uganda’s most celebrated drivers return to the grid with championship-winning machinery.
