Southern Motor Club (SMC) is in celebratory mood after one of their own conquered Africa.

The club has welcomed back its member and treasurer, Dr. Geoffrey Nsereko, from the recently concluded Tanzania Serengeti Rally where he delivered a historic performance.

Driving a humble Toyota Etios, Nsereko defied the odds to finish 6th overall and 1st in the ARC4 category, a result that earned him the African Rally Championship title in his class.

It was a giant-killing act — a small car against more powerful machines — but Nsereko’s consistency, precision and determination saw him raise both the Ugandan and SMC flags high on foreign soil.

Club Patron Ponsiano Lwakataka led the tributes, thanking Nsereko for his heroic display.

“We thank Dr. Nsereko for raising our flag high. As SMC, we are proud to have a champion among us. He has shown that passion and commitment can overcome any machine disadvantage,” Lwakataka said.

Nsereko, who serves as the SMC Treasurer, becomes the latest Ugandan driver to claim continental honours, cementing SMC’s reputation as a breeding ground for champions.
