It is the end of a remarkable chapter for Ugandan football.
Former Uganda Cranes captain Khalid Aucho has officially announced his retirement from international football, bringing down the curtain on a distinguished 13-year career with the national team.
Aucho, who made his international debut on November 30, 2013, bows out with 77 caps, having worn the armband with pride and played a pivotal role in the Cranes’ modern history.
He will be remembered as one of the key figures who powered Uganda’s emotional return to the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) after a 38-year absence in 2017, and went on to represent the country at three AFCON tournaments.
In his retirement statement released on Monday, October 12, 2026, the combative midfielder expressed heartfelt gratitude to FUFA, his coaches, teammates and Ugandan fans for their unwavering support throughout his journey.
“Representing Uganda has been the greatest privilege of my life,” Aucho said, paying tribute to everyone who stood by him from his debut to his final bow in the Cranes shirt.
While he steps away from the pitch in national colours, Aucho pledged to continue supporting the national team as a new generation of players takes up the mantle of carrying the country’s flag.
From a young debutant in 2013 to a leader and three-time AFCON star, Aucho leaves behind a legacy of grit, leadership and patriotism.
