National Council of Sports has flagged off a contingent of 89 members that will represent Uganda Schools in the 1st ANOCA School Games in Algeria.
The contingent was officially flagged off on today, Monday 21, July, 2025 at Cooper Chimney Lugogo for a championship that is slated to start on 26th July to 5th August 2025. Games are set to take place in four cities; Annaba, Constatine, Setif, and Skikda with the official opening ceremony to be held in Annaba on 26th July 2025.
The group had 53 athletes from four schools and they are representing Uganda in seven disciplines including boys’ football, lawn tennis, table tennis, basketball 3X3, badminton, beach volleyball, swimming and athletics. 23 coaches, and 13 officials are also on board.

Buddo SS, Ngora High School, Seroma Christian High School, and Gayaza High School, in addition to National Select teams for Athletics and swimming will produce the athletes.
The ceremony attracted a number of big names in School games including; Commissioner of Physical Education and Sports, Rev. Canon. Duncans Mugumya ,Patrick Alfred Okanya, President Emeritus USSSA, leader of delegation. Lydia Dhamuzungu, Asst. General Secretary Uganda Olympic Committee, NCS General Secretary, Dr. Bernard Patrick Ogwel who was the chief guest and other dignitaries.

While Addressing the media Bernard Bernard Patrick Ogwel, stated that, “The foundation we’re laying now should propel us to have athletes representing Uganda at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. Let’s be good ambassadors and showcase the best of our country.”

Rev. Can. Dr. Duncans Mugumya, emphasised for discipline as he stated that, “Discipline should be paramount while we are out there! Let’s go as one and return as one team.
