JT Jaguars emerged victorious in a tense 56-55 showdown against the JT Jaguars in a National Basketball League clash packed with drama and momentum swings at Lugogo Indoor Arena on Sunday.

The Rockets came out of the gates with early intent, establishing a 19-12 lead at the end of the first quarter, capped off by Brian Opion’s composed conversion of two free throws after a late foul.

However, the Jaguars clawed their way back into the contest. A well-timed three-pointer from Aaron John Eboyu in the dying seconds of the second quarter trimmed the Rockets’ lead to just one point, with the halftime scoreboard reading 30-29 in favor of Kampala.

The third quarter saw a noticeable shift in momentum. Jaguars tightened their defense, forcing multiple turnovers while keeping the Rockets’ offense in check. The Rockets managed just nine points in the entire quarter, while the Jaguars capitalized on their dominance to build a 45-39 lead heading into the fourth.

Despite a spirited final-quarter rally from the Rockets, which saw them reduce the gap point by point, it was George Agasi who held his nerve at the free throw line. With just seconds on the clock, Agasi converted two of three free throws to seal a one-point win for the Jaguars.

The thrilling finale ignited tempers among sections of the Rockets’ fanbase, some of whom had to be restrained after confronting match officials following the final whistle.

On the scoring front, Aaron Eboyu was instrumental for the Jaguars, leading all scorers with 19 points. He was ably supported by Peter Sifuma with 11 points and Agasi with 10, as the trio powered the team to a hard-earned win.

The result keeps JT Jaguars firmly in playoff contention, while the Rockets will rue missed opportunities and costly mistakes in key moments of the game.
