What started as a shaky season for NIC Netball Club has rapidly transformed into a story of redemption and resurgence. After suffering a surprising loss to KCCA on opening day, the reigning champions have found their stride, rising from early-season doubts to East African dominance.

NIC not only bounced back with an emphatic title win at the East Africa Club Championship but have also climbed to the summit of the Netball Super League Division I. With just three matchdays left in the first round, their focus has sharpened as they prepare to take on a spirited UPDF side this Saturday at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo.

While NIC eyes consistency and separation at the top, UPDF has quietly built a respectable campaign. Sitting midtable, they have shown glimpses of brilliance and could pose a serious threat if taken lightly. Rashid Mubiru’s NIC knows they can’t afford any slip-ups against a team hungry to break into the league’s upper ranks.

Meanwhile, the day’s fixture list promises intense battles elsewhere in the league. Makindye Weyonje face a critical double-header — clashing with both Busia Greater Lions and title contenders UCU Angels. With ambitions of breaking into the top four, Weyonje can’t afford to falter. Two wins could be transformative.

KCCA, eager to maintain momentum after a rocky start, will be targeting a statement win over UGX Luwero — a side languishing near the relegation zone. For KCCA, this fixture is less about survival and more about catching up with UCU in second place.

Police Netball Club also face a pivotal day with two winnable matches on their plate — a morning duel with UGISA followed by a clash against Busia Greater Lions. With the right execution, Police could vault into the conversation for a top-five finish.

As the first round nears its end, the margins are narrowing and ambitions sharpening. For NIC, the mission is clear: stay relentless and defend their top spot. But across the league, every team has something to fight for — be it glory, redemption, or survival.
