Tanzania v Madagascar -8pm
Tanzania and Madagascar are set for a decisive showdown in the TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) PAMOJA 2024, with both sides eyeing a result that could define their tournament.
The match will take place in Dar es Salaam on Saturday, marking Madagascar’s first-ever meeting with a CHAN host nation and their first clash against an East African opponent.
For Tanzania, this is another chance to extend a promising run. The hosts have already defeated Burkina Faso and Mauritania without conceding a goal, maintaining a perfect record in second group matches in their CHAN history.
Remarkably, they have never conceded in such games, and their current four-match unbeaten streak at the finals is their best yet. A win on Saturday would not only give them their first three consecutive CHAN victories but also secure qualification to the knockout stage for the first time.
Madagascar arrive with a point from their opening match, a goalless draw with Mauritania. It was the first time they failed to win a group stage game after sweeping through in 2022, and also the first time they’ve recorded back-to-back clean sheets in the competition.
However, their attacking display was subdued, managing just one shot on target and only 37% possession. Historically, they have been more decisive — their previous second group game ended in a 3-0 victory over Sudan, their biggest win at the finals.
While Tanzania have scored three goals in the tournament so far — each from different players — they have never managed to win their third group game in previous editions. For Madagascar, a loss would mark their first-ever group stage defeat in CHAN history.
With Tanzania’s defensive solidity and Madagascar’s quest to rediscover their attacking edge, the stakes are high, and the outcome could shape the complexion of Group B.
