Lugazi FC produced a spirited second-half performance to dispatch visiting Buhimba United 5–2 in a thrilling Uganda Premier League clash played at Najjembe on Friday evening.
After a dominant first half, Lugazi appeared to be cruising following goals from David Bagole and Abdul Kalanzi. Bagole broke the deadlock in the 32nd minute with a composed finish before Kalanzi doubled the lead from the penalty spot seven minutes later, giving the hosts a 2–0 cushion at halftime.
However, Buhimba came out firing after the restart. Sadick Mulo pulled one back in the 48th minute before an unfortunate own goal by Lugazi’s Ayiko Richard two minutes later restored parity at 2–2.
That scare seemed to awaken Lugazi, who responded with a flurry of attacks. Substitute Fredom Mungudt stole the show with a quickfire brace in the 75th and 79th minutes—his energy and sharp finishing turning the game decisively in Lugazi’s favour. Dauson Mafumu then sealed the emphatic victory in the 85th minute.
Ayiko Richard and Buga Moses were both cautioned for Lugazi, while Buhimba’s Davis Kakaire also received a yellow card.
Mungudt’s two-goal contribution and all-round attacking brilliance earned him the Man of the Match award as Lugazi celebrated a morale-boosting win on home turf.
