Calvary FC suffered a narrow 1–0 defeat to visiting UPDF FC in a tightly contested Uganda Premier League fixture played on Tuesday afternoon in Yumbe.

The match kicked off after both teams’ substitutes settled on the bench, with referee Duula Joshua signaling the start. UPDF struck early in the 12th minute through Emmanuel Ochen, who finished calmly after being set up by Samuel Ssekamate, giving the army side a 1–0 advantage.

Calvary attempted to respond quickly. In the 17th minute, a well-delivered outswinging cross from Swaibu Kasujja was controlled by Ssekamatte for Frank Mugisa, but his effort flew over the bar.

Moments later, Calvary missed a chance when Christopher Agotre released Lawrence Olaboro with a neat throw pass, yet the forward dragged his attempt wide.

Despite these half chances, Calvary failed to register a single shot on target throughout the first period. UPDF maintained control of the game, effectively executing their offside trap, catching Calvary’s attackers offside five times. The visitors carried their one-goal lead into halftime.

The second half saw Calvary push forward more aggressively, but the breakthrough continued to elude them. The hosts made changes in the 63rd minute, introducing Steven Nyalimo and Mubaraka Mitala for Lawrence Olaboro and Junior Ojok. Still, the UPDF defence remained resolute.

UPDF responded with their own changes two minutes later, bringing on Brian Kalumba and Rashid Farid for Ssekamate and Samson Andrew to stabilise the attack and protect their advantage.

Despite late pressure and several forward movements from the home side, UPDF held firm until the final whistle, securing all three points. The victory saw UPDF move to six points in the 13th position, five ahead of bottom side.
