The stage is set for the 2026 Uganda Para Badminton International, which will take place from 7–12 July 2026 at the Lugogo Indoor Stadium in Kampala, Uganda.

This year’s edition will attract participants from 16 countries across the world, including hosts Uganda, Kenya, Brazil, Israel, India, Egypt, Azerbaijan, Nigeria, Indonesia, and several others.

According to Badminton Uganda CEO Simon Mugabi, this year’s tournament has been affected by the Ebola outbreak, which forced several countries to withdraw from the championship.

Despite the challenge, Mugabi expressed confidence that the federation is fully prepared to stage a successful event. He noted that Badminton Uganda successfully organized competitions during the COVID-19 pandemic and is ready to ensure the championship runs smoothly.Uganda has traditionally registered the highest number of participants as the host nation.

However, this year’s edition will feature only 21 Ugandan para badminton players. Mugabi attributed the decline in local entries to some players failing to honour previous tournament commitments, which has negatively affected the federation’s planning.

Since the introduction of para badminton in Uganda in 2017, the sport has continued to grow, with many athletes benefiting from increased participation and development opportunities.

Mugabi said the federation’s Shuttle Time workshops, which are being conducted in different parts of the country, have helped identify talented para badminton players. He added that Badminton Uganda aims to recruit and develop even more para athletes as part of its long-term growth strategy for the sport.
