Cameroon beat Malawi to claim maiden WAFCON title

Cameroon’s Indomitable Lionesses made history after beating Malawi 3-0 in the final of the WAFCON women’s football tournament

From the first minutes of the match, Cameroon dominated the game and scored the opening goal in the 20th minute through Marie Gisele Divine Ngah Manga who scored a stunning goal after a defensive mistake by the Malawians.

Another goal came ten minutes later as Naomi Leslie Ndjoah Eto scored a glorious header to put Cameroon 2-0 up in the 30th minute.

In the 45th minute, Naomi Leslie Ndjoah Eto crossed the ball into the box and Marie Gisele Divine Ngah Manga powered a header into the net to score her second goal of the match and seal Cameroon’s place in the history books.

In the second half of the match, Cameroon continued to frustrate their opponents but the Scorchers managed to deal with all the threats.

Despite the two bookings in the stoppage time of the second half — 91st and 93rd minutes, Cameroon saw their fate be sealed as they registered the first WAFCON win of their career.

On the podium, Cameroon and Malawi were Algeria who defeated hosts Morocco 3-1 in penalties to take home the bronze medals. Their tie ended 0-0 after 90 minutes.
