Sudanese giants Al Hilal Omdurman put on a commanding display at the ongoing CECAFA Kagame Cup, sweeping aside Zanzibar’s KVZ FC 4–0 in their second Group C fixture to take total control of the group with six points.
The victory comes on the heels of Al Hilal’s 2–0 opening match win against Kenya’s Tusker FC, cementing their position as early tournament favorites.
Despite the emphatic four-goal scoreline, Al Hilal head coach Guy Bukasa highlighted the tactical test his side faced during key stretches of the match.
“It was not an easy game,” noted Bukasa after the match. “Opponents wanted to put us in a difficult situation, but we managed to get out of every situation. This win will push us ahead of the last group game.”
Bukasa’s men managed to navigate KVZ’s defensive traps, adjusting mid-game to exploit space in the final third and punish errors with clinical precision.
On the opposite bench, KVZ FC head coach Amri Said reflected on his side’s performance with optimism, despite back-to-back losses in Group C following their 2–0 defeat to Rwanda’s Rayon Sports.
“It was not a hard game despite the loss; we have played a bit well compared to the last game,” Said stated. “We will use the positives learned ahead of the next and final game.”
When asked about the learning curve for his Zanzibari champions against region-wide heavyweight clubs, Said emphasized the long-term value for his squad:
“We are playing very experienced sides here at CECAFA, which is a positive to us.”
Al Hilal now sit comfortably atop Group C. All eyes turn to the remaining Group C matchup, where Kenyan champions Tusker FC clash with host side Rayon Sports in a crucial tie that will determine who keeps pace with the leaders.
