The future of Ugandan cricket is looking brighter than ever following a generous donation of high-quality cricket equipment from the United Kingdom. This vital contribution is set to transform the landscape of grassroots cricket development across the country.
The initiative, spearheaded by Sarah Begg and Lee Booth, represents a significant milestone in the partnership between international cricket enthusiasts and the Uganda Cricket Association (UCA). The donated gear—including bats, pads, helmets, and gloves—is specifically destined for schools and regional cricket hubs.
Speaking during the handover to regional coordinators, Grace Mutyagaba, the Regional Development Officer for Northern Uganda, emphasized the impact this equipment will have on young athletes.
“This equipment is basically going to be used in implementing the basics and skill set to make sure we can have some great improvement in skills and understanding of the sport of cricket,” Mutyagaba noted.
By providing students and young players with professional-grade tools, the UCA aims to foster a culture of confidence and technical excellence from an early age.
The donation has already been distributed to regional coordinators to ensure it reaches the far corners of the country. This “hub-centric” approach is part of Cricket Uganda’s broader strategy to decentralize the sport, moving beyond the capital to identify and nurture talent in every district.
The slogan for this initiative, “Play with Confidence,” perfectly captures the spirit of the project. Access to proper safety gear and quality bats allows young players to focus on their technique without fear, accelerating their growth and passion for the game.
As the Cricket Cranes continue to make waves on the international stage, initiatives like this ensure that the pipeline of talent remains strong. With better equipment and dedicated coaching, the next generation of Ugandan cricket stars is already beginning to take shape.

What a fantastic achievement for cricket in Uganda! It’s wonderful to see such support boosting the sport’s development.
