Former Vipers SC midfielder completes move to USL Championship side Oakland Roots SC

The Uganda Cranes midfielder joins the USL Championship from MLS Next Pro side, Austin FC II where he helped the team to won the 2023 Championship.

This was confirmed by Oakland Roots SC on Monday evening in a statement released on the club’s website

“Bobosi is a young player we are very excited to bring in to help solidify our midfield,” said Head Coach Gavin Glinton.

“To have the international experience and multiple league championships under his belt at such a young age has set him an incredible foundation into becoming a key player in our squad this season.”

The Uganda Cranes star will hope to impress so that he can be elevated to the senior team.

Byaruhanga, who won the Uganda Premier League (2022) and Uganda Cup (2021) titles with Vipers, was part of the Uganda Hippos team that reached the U20 Africa Cup of Nations final before losing to Ghana (2-0) in Mauritania in 2021.

He also donned the Uganda Cranes jersey featuring in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers and all the FIFA World Cup qualification campaigns and subsquently won the FUFA Male Player of the Year Award in 2021.

Oakland Roots SC competes in the USL Championship Eastern conference which is the top tier in the American soccer pyramid. They will start this year’s campaign against Orange County on Sunday 9th march 2025.

Oakland Roots Sports Club is an American professional soccer team based in Oakland, California. The club was formed in 2018 by a group of Oakland natives, and began play in the National Independent Soccer Association in the fall of 2019. In 2021, the club joined the second division USL Championship .
