The Minister State for Sports Hon. Peter Ogwang has today marched off team Uganda in a vibrant ceremony on their way to the 2026 Federation of East Africa Schools Sports Association (FEASSA) Games to be held in Morogoro, Tanzania.
The flag-off ceremony, which marks the start of the preparations for the 23 rd edition of the prestigious regional tournament, was held at the National Council of Sports (NCS) Lugogo with a large contingent of Uganda’s student athletes.
Team Uganda leaves with the title defense on their hearts after a spectacular show last year, as they prepare to battle it out among the best in the region.
The 1,533KM Journey Begins on Sunday morning in capital Kampala.
According to the itinerary released by the Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA), the students will take a long route to Tanzania via Busia border. This will ease the travel restrictions imposed on the team, compared to the one taken last year:
9 th August 2026: Depart from Kampala via the Busia Border, to Kenya,
10 th August 2026: The players will take a road trip to Arusha, Tanzania, with the day’s programme covering a drive from Nairobi to Namanga Border and a short rest in Arusha,
11 th August 2026: The team departs from Arusha to Morogoro via Moshi and arrives at 6 am, giving the players enough time to settle and acclimatize;
13 th –22 nd August 2026: The competition, ceremony and medal giving days.
There is high expectation that Uganda will defend her crown at the 2026 FEASSA Games in Tanzania. These sports include: football, basketball, rugby, netball, volleyball, athletics, swimming among others.
Team Uganda has the following are power houses (schools) in each of the following categories:
Football (Boys & Girls)
Boys: Amus College School, Bukedea Comprehensive School, St Mary’s Boarding Secondary School Kitende and Kyadondo Secondary School.
Girls: Amus College School (leads both boys and girls teams), Rines SS, Boni Consili Girls and St Noa Girls Secondary School Zana.
Basketball (5×5 and 3×3)
St Mary’s Kitende, St Noa Girls Zana, Amus College, St Michael High School Sonde and Nabisunsa Girls School.
Rugby (15s & 7s)
Rugby 15s: Namilyango College, St Mary’s College Kisubi (SMACK) and Jinja S.S
Rugby 7s & Formats: Makerere College School, Mbarara High School and Busoga College Mwiri
Swimming & Athletic
Swimming: The 30-strong team has had a contingent of players from Seroma Christian High School, Aga Khan High School, Shree Sahajanand School and Vienna College Namugongo
Team Uganda officials said they were confident in the teams preparations as they head to Morogoro for the 23 rd edition of the event. Sources in the Uganda Sports Secretariat noted that Uganda posed a stiff test to her regional rivals such as Kenya and the host nation Tanzania.
The 2026 tournament, which comes after a decade in Tanzania, will be held at Morogoro Teachers College (MOTCO) and Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA). The Ugandan contingent is expected to face strong challenges from their rivals in Kenya, Tanzania, Burundi and Rwanda.
