Kavuma Jackson Speaks on Cricket Uganda’s Vision for Reform at AGM

The Uganda Cricket fraternity gathered for its highly anticipated Annual General Assembly (AGM) on March 28th, 2026, at Hotel Africana Hotel in Kampala were the chairman cricket Uganda Mr Jackson kavuma embarked on expanding structures to the grassroots .

Central to the discussions was the association’s ambitions to realign with the 2023 Uganda Sports Act and reshape the future of the sport of Cricket in the country.

The meeting saw key resolutions made, notably the association’s desire to take a significant step forward in aligning with national sports governance standards , the annual report, constitutional review report, proposed amendments and audited accounts for the previous financial year were also presented.

Mr Jackson kavuma the chairman cricket Uganda took the opportunity to brief the media on the new direction.

“Cricket Uganda has undertook a comprehensive review of its strategic direction and, with the support and input of various stakeholders, developed a five-year Strategic Plan for the game of cricket and we have reviewed the budget, and auditors confirmed that funds received from the government and the International Cricket Council have been properly managed,” Kavuma stated”.

“Cricket Uganda has designed roadmap provides clear direction for growth, governance, high performance, grassroots development, and commercial sustainability, and will guide our collective efforts as we build a stronger and more resilient future for cricket in Uganda”.

“we are on the right track to meet compliance obligations under the law. We have also visited 139 districts to expand the game across Uganda, and in May, we will convene an assembly to finalize preparations, including confirming a new constitution,” he added

With the 2023 Sports Act mandating federations to have a coverage of 75 percent, Cricket Uganda honorary secretary Denis Musali highlighted the process,

“We are very eager to register Cricket Uganda as a Federation, and we started the process and are working towards having our special general assembly by May. Today, we have had the opportunity to acknowledge our members about the changes.”

In the structures that have been adopted to see the fulfillment of the coverage compliance, Cricket Uganda has structured District Cricket Associations to have memberships at the regional levels.

In the regional setups, Cricket Uganda will constitute seven Regional Associations such as Central, Eastern, Nile, Northern, Southern, Western, and Special Interest groups.

Following approval, all District and Regional Cricket Associations and Special Interest groups will join the list of Cricket Uganda National Assembly Membership Joining clubs that have been members for at least ten years, including 8 founding Cricket Clubs, as the rules to be set by the Cricket Uganda Executive Board shall state.
