Kenya Sevens, popularly known as Shujaa, finished seventh at the Hong Kong SVNS Championship after defeating France 21-7 in their final classification match.

Shujaa had a difficult start to the tournament, losing their opening Pool C matches 14-5 to Australia and 28-12 to New Zealand. However, they bounced back strongly with a 17-10 victory over the USA before sealing another win against France.

Those results were enough to see them progress as one of the best third-placed teams.

In the quarter-finals, Kenya’s campaign was ended in dramatic fashion after a narrow 26-22 loss to South Africa in an African derby, with the decisive score coming late in the match.

Despite the disappointment of missing out on the top four, Kenya showed resilience by finishing the tournament on a high note with a seventh-place finish.

The SVNS Championship series now heads to Valladolid, Spain, from May 29 to 31 for the next leg, before moving to Bordeaux, France, from June 5 to 7.
