In a move aimed at bolstering administrative stability, the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has officially appointed Dennis Gicheru as the Acting General Secretary and CEO. The appointment, which takes effect immediately as of February 6, 2026, follows a period of transition within the federation’s top leadership.

Gicheru is no stranger to the inner workings of the FA House. Prior to this elevation, he served as the Federation’s Head of Legal and Integrity. In that role, he was a key figure in FKF’s fight against match-fixing and was tasked with managing over 20 active legal disputes ranging from election petitions to contract breaches.

His background as a qualified Advocate of the High Court is expected to provide the federation with a firm legal footing as it prepares to advertise for a substantive CEO.

From the Pitch to the Boardroom
What sets Gicheru apart from many career administrators is his extensive history as a professional footballer. His deep understanding of the game comes from years of experience on the pitch with several top-tier Kenyan clubs: Wazito FC (where he also served as CEO)

He is a former player for KCB FC, Posta Rangers and Kangemi All Stars. His previous stint as the CEO of Wazito FC saw him navigate the complexities of club management, making him a unique blend of “boots-on-the-ground” experience and legal expertise.
