ZANZIBAR – Tanzanian giants Yanga Africans SC have officially sounded the war drums at the 2026 Mapinduzi Cup. On Sunday evening, the “Wananchi” kicked off their Group C campaign with a clinical 3-0 demolition of Zanzibar’s KVZ FC at the Amaan Stadium.
Yanga started with intent, and it was their Ivorian forward, Pacome Zouzoua, who broke the deadlock in the 33rd minute with a powerful finish that set the tone for the evening.

However, the story of the second half was one of heartbreak for KVZ defender Rahim Chikuni. In a bizarre turn of events, Chikuni twice turned the ball into his own net—first in the 55th minute and again in the 75th minute—effectively handing Yanga the points on a silver platter.
The result is a death blow for KVZ. Having previously settled for a 1-1 draw against TRA Utd SC, they exit the tournament with just one point.

Yanga now sits comfortably at the top of Group C and only needs a draw against TRA Utd on Tuesday to secure their spot in the next round.
All Eyes on URA FC: The Ugandan Challenge
For Ugandan football fans, the real excitement begins on Monday. Uganda’s representatives, URA FC (The Tax Collectors), are set for a high-stakes showdown against Azam FC.
The Scenario: This is the final game of Group A. URA FC showed great character earlier in the week, grinding out a 1-0 win over defending champions Mlandege and a 1-1 draw against Singida Black Stars.

The Stakes: A win for URA against the wealthy Azam FC would likely be enough to see the Ugandans progress to the semi-finals.
Monday’s Mapinduzi Fixtures:
Azam FC vs. URA FC | Group A Finale, 04:15PM
Fufuni SC vs. Simba SC | Group B Finale, 08;15PM
Tuesday:
Yanga Africans SC vs TRA Utd SC | Group C Finale, 08:15PM

This is fantastic news! Yanga really showed their strength and it’ll be exciting to see how they perform in the rest of the tournament.
