Three-time Buganda Masaza Cup champions Mawokota Ssaza have officially unveiled Richard Malinga as their head coach for a fifth stint ahead of the 2026 Masaza Cup campaign.
The unveiling ceremony was held at Buwama Community Grounds on Sunday, May 31, 2026, where the Mawokota Ssaza Chairman Mr Kavuma Ronald also announced its full technical and backroom staff for the upcoming tournament.
Malinga returns to Mawokota after previously coaching the side between 2020 and 2023. He replaces Hussien Kato, who guided the team to the group stages of the competition last season.
The former KCCA Junior Team coach brings a wealth of experience to the role. Beyond his success in the Masaza Cup, Malinga has also made a significant impact in school football. He recently guided Amus College to its maiden USSSA Boys’ Football Championship title in Lira, having led Buddo Secondary School to the championship in Ngora the previous year.
At Mawokota, Malinga will be assisted by Richard Nkosole and Hakim Ssekumba, while Tumusime Zzaga takes charge as goalkeeping coach. Ssegoba Nickolas has been appointed team doctor, and John Bosco Lubyayi Sseguya will serve as team manager.
Mawokota remains one of the most successful and historic teams in the Masaza Cup, having won the championship three times—in 2005, 2007, and 2013. The county will be hoping Malinga can help end a 13-year wait for another title when the 2026 season gets underway.
Mawokota has been drawn into the highly competitive Masengere Group, widely regarded as the “Group of Death.” The group features record champions Gomba Lions, three-time champions Bulemeezi, 2022 champions Busiro, Ssese, and Kyaggwe.
Mawokota will begin their 2026 campaign against Kyaggwe on June 21, 2026, at Buwama Community Grounds.
The tournament itself will officially kick off on June 13 at Mubende NTC Grounds, where defending champions Buweekula will host 2008 champions Kyaddondo in the opening fixture.
