The Futsal Association Uganda (FAU) has officially invited primary schools across the country to register for the 2026 Futsal Primary Schools League, marking a new chapter for grassroots football in Uganda.
As the 2026 academic year kicks off, FAU is shifting its focus to the youngest athletes, aiming to turn school courts and halls into breeding grounds for technical brilliance and discipline.
The league, which has become a staple of the national sports calendar, is designed to be more than just a tournament. According to FAU, it is a strategic platform where education meets sport, focusing on nurturing character, teamwork, and confidence in young learners.
Why Futsal?
For primary school pupils, the small-sided nature of Futsal is the perfect teacher. With no offside rule, unlimited substitutions, and a smaller, heavier ball, the game ensures every child is constantly involved. This high-intensity environment forces quick decision-making and sharpens technical skills far more effectively than the traditional 11-a-side game.
League Categories and Objectives

The 2026 edition will feature both boys’ and girls’ teams across various age categories. FAU has structured the competition to align with specific developmental milestones:
Junior Categories: Focus on fun, coordination, and basic ball control.
Senior Categories: Focus on tactical awareness, responsibility, and competitive spirit.
A Call to Action for Schools
Beyond the physical benefits, participating schools stand to gain significant visibility within the Ugandan sporting fraternity. Students will compete for trophies, medals, and certificates, while schools build a reputation for holistic child development.
“In responding to this call, schools are not simply entering a league—they are investing in the future of their pupils,” a statement from FAU read. “We are shaping confident learners, responsible citizens, and the next generation of Ugandan sporting icons.”
Primary schools interested in participating are urged to officially confirm their interest with the Futsal Association Uganda. Registration is open to schools nationwide that are ready to embrace the fast-paced world of indoor football.

Wow, this is fantastic news for young footballers in Uganda! I hope many schools take advantage of this great opportunity.
